Alvernia maintains its Military Friendly ® status for 2021-2022
University recognized for supporting military students for ninth consecutive year
Reading, Pa. – University of Alvernia realized Military Friendly ® Status for the ninth year in a row and is one of 747 institutions nationwide to receive the designation for meeting academic criteria in areas such as student retention, graduation and placement in addition to staying in rule with federal programs such as the post-9/11 IG Bill and Armed Forces Tuition Assistance Funding. This designation is for the 2021-2022 academic year.
“The continued designation of Alvernia Military Friendly® demonstrates our commitment to improving the student experience for our military students and their families,” said the Vice President, Registration and Student Experience. Mary-Alice Ozechoski. “Our military students are an important part of the fabric of our student body and we pride ourselves on helping them achieve their academic and professional goals.”
Each year a new list of Military Friendly Schools ® is offered to military personnel and their families, helping them choose the best college, university or trade school to receive the education and training necessary to pursue a civilian career. The list of Military Friendly® schools 2021-2022 will be published in the May issue of GI Jobs magazine.
“Military Friendly® is committed to ensuring transparency and providing consistent, data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Kayla Lopez, National Director of Military Partnerships for Military Friendly. “It creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages colleges to constantly evolve and invest in their programs. Schools that achieve the designation demonstrate genuine commitment and dedication in their endeavors. Our standards help schools by providing a benchmark that promotes positive educational outcomes, resources and support services that enhance the educational landscape and provide opportunities for the military community.
Alvernia is one of the few institutions in the country to have a Veterans Center. This center provides the resources, support and advocacy necessary for success in higher education. The Veterans Success Team encourages participation in military organizations, develops outreach programs to enlighten the campus community about veteran culture and history, and raises awareness of issues surrounding veterans and their families.
In the last academic year, Alvernia organized military benefits for 36 students, including serving military personnel, veterans and their families. In addition to tuition assistance and various other benefits, military service members can apply for federal assistance. A list of resources, benefits, partnerships and events is available on the Benefits for Veterans Web page. Earlier this academic year, Alvernia has been recognized for military support of the colleges of distinction.
Methodology, criteria and weights were determined by VIQTORY with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Board made up of independent leaders from the higher education and military recruiting community. Final scores were determined by combining all of the institution’s survey responses and government / agency public data sources into a logic-based scoring assessment. We measure the institution’s ability to meet student retention, graduation, placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rate thresholds for all students and, in particular, for student ex-combatants.
The Military Friendly® Schools List is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools across the country, contributions from veteran students and responses to the proprietary data survey Military Friendly® schools from participating institutions. The survey questions, methodology, criteria and weighting were developed with the help of an independent research firm and an advisory board of educators and employers. The survey is administered free of charge and is open to all post-secondary schools who wish to participate.
