Gambia’s Kanteh scores for Sporting Huelva against Real Sociedad
The Gambian striker of Spanish descent has found the back of the net, although his side collapsed at home facing his visitors in Huelva
Fatoumata Kanteh was on the scoresheet as Sporting Huelva lost 2-1 to Real Sociedad in the rescheduled Primera Iberdrola game on Wednesday.
The Spanish-born Gambian had scored her first goal of the season, with the opener in a 2-1 win over Tenerife three weeks ago.
After playing in a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday, the 23-year-old clinched her 16th league start and made a fantastic contribution, despite her home side falling to the visitors.
Antonio Sanchez’s side made a false start in the game as Nuria Mendoza helped Amaiur Sarriegi put Real Sociedad ahead after just 18 minutes of action.
Four minutes later, Natalia Arroyo’s side doubled their lead when Cecilia Marcos placed Nahikari Garcia for the second of the game.
After the break, the hosts began a retaliation in the contest when Kristina Fisher forced Kanteh to pull one out two minutes after the restart, but that wasn’t enough to save her side from defeat.
The defeat left Sporting in 14th place on Iberdrola’s Spanish table after collecting 24 points in 23 games this season.
Kanteh was in action for 79 minutes of the game in his 23rd league appearance and scored his second goal of the season for Sporting.
The Gambian will maintain her fine scoring form in the final third when Sporting face Madrid in their next game on March 28.
