Sack Coleman and Payne help as Kentah’s Sporting Huelva beat Sevilla
Namibia and Nigeria internationals were in good shape but couldn’t save Cristian Toro’s side from defeat
Zenatha Coleman and Toni Payne provided assists but their efforts could not save Sevilla from a 4-2 loss to Sporting Huelva of Fatoumata Kanteh in Sunday’s Spanish game at Primera Iberdrola.
The Namibian international notched their 16th league start, while the Nigeria international made their 22nd start for Sevilla and the African duo impressed even as their squad fell apart in Huelva.
In the wake of a 4-0 loss to Barcelona, the visitors got off to a bad start as Dany Helena gave the hosts an early lead after just nine minutes of action at Estadio Nuevo Colombino.
Cristian Toro’s side gave Sporting another easy breakthrough by conceding a penalty and Mayra Ramirez converted from the spot to double the lead for the visitors 11 minutes later.
The worst happened to the visitors when Sandra Castello set up Yoko Tanaka to extend Sporting’s lead to six minutes from halftime.
Continuing where they left off against Sevilla, Antonio Sanchez’s side added the fourth three minutes after the restart thanks to Ramirez’s second of the meeting.
However, Toro’s side finally came to life in the contest when Coleman started the comeback, giving Maite Albarran a tee shot to pull one off for the visitors in the 65th minute.
Although the hosts maintain a three-goal lead, the visitors finally managed to cut the tally when Payne helped Inma Gabarro find another breakthrough at four minutes of full time.
Namibia Coleman played throughout the game and notched his third assist of the season, as well as four goals in 22 appearances.
Nigeria’s Toni Payne was also in action from start to finish, getting her fourth assist of the season in 25 games.
On the other hand, Spanish-born Gambian Kanteh also lasted the entire meeting, as Sporting returned to victory.
The result kept Sevilla in eighth place, with 33 points in 25 games, while Sporting Huelva moved up to 11th place with 27 points from the same number of games.
Following the international break, Sevilla will host Atletico Madrid, while Sporting Huelva travel to Levante on April 17.
